CRUISE INTO HISTORY TOUR
Mark your calendars for Sunday September 11th to circumnavigate Orcas Island, with a guided naration by local historian Tom Welch. Our vessel will be the Eclipse, provided by Denise & Dan Wilk of Eclipse Charters of Orcas Island. All proceeds go to supporting the Orcas Island Historical Museum. Check-in is at 12:30pm and the boat leaves promptly at 1pm, arriving back to the Orcas Ferry Landing at 6pm. Price: $99 per person, or $175 for two. BISON BASH SUMMER FUNDRAISER
A few seats are left for our gala fundraiser at Ayer's Pond, near Obstruction Pass, the location where our 14,000 year old Bison Antiquus skull and about 100 other prehistoric bones were found. Sunday July 17th from 4-7pm, catered by Orcas Village Store, with live music by Martin Lund and Gene Nery. Three visiting expert scientists will be in attendance to speak and discuss the significance of this rare find, which was listed by Discover Magazine as one of the top ten discoveries in the world in 2009. We hope you will join us to enjoy our annual Historical Day Fair at the Village Green in Eastsound, from 10am to 3pm.
The Historical Day Parade (sponsored by the Orcas Chamber of Commerce) will commence at 11am. Come enjoy a summer afternoon with great food and the lively sounds of our own Orcas Horns, lead by Martin Lund. Featured this year among the many on- and off-island vendors will be expert demonstrations in how to split cedar shakes, blacksmithing, sock construction on an antique sock-knitting machine, and bicycle-powered fruit smoothies!

Coming up in July on Sunday the 17th: the "Bison Bash" fundraiser dinner! This will take place at Ayer's Pond, where our 14,000 year old Bison Antiquus skull (and 110 other bones) were found. A beautiful setting, great food, live music, and some ancient history lessons! Details to be announced soon here and in other venues, so mark your calendar!OPENING DAY PARTY!
Mark your calendars on Friday May 27th for our annual Opening Day party, taking place in and around the Orcas Museum from 4-6pm. Musical entertainment, food and refreshments will be provided, as well as free admission to the Museum for all. As of the next day, Saturday May 28th, the Orcas Island Museum will be open five days a week, from Wednesday to Sunday, from 11am to 4pm. The Smithsonian Institute's traveling exhibit, Journey Stories, was at the Orcas Island Historical Museum from July 17 - August 29 in 2010. We now have on display a beautiful collection of Orcas Journey Stories in a large hand-bound book in the Entrance hallway. It is still not too late to write your own Journey Story and submit it to this Museum archive! Call us at 376-4849.

Windows of History Photo Exhibit
Make sure you visit Terence J. Eagan's photo installation in the Our House building in Eastsound. The photographs are from the Orcas Island Historical Museum archives and can also be found in the "Images of Orcas Island" book available at the museum bookstore.
